Romney Says He Doesn't Care for Poor People
Mitt Romney said he's not concerned about the poor in an interview with Soledad O'Brien. This continues the strategic pattern of deriding and dismissing the "least of these."
Drone Wars by Obama Administration Admitted
Drone war casualties are not mentioned in the mainstream press, but President Obama has been very hawkish in using these attacks. Mr. Obama recently stated that the US does not use drones "willy-nilly" but rather in a precise fashion to go after terrorists. According to The Bureau (organization that tracks drone attacks) and the Obama administration's statements, these wars are occuring primarily in Sudan, Egypt, the Horn of Africa, the Arabian penisula, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and parts of Iran. These attacks have thus killed between 2,386 and 3,015 persons of which a reported 391 where civilians and 175 have been children. What the Obama administration should do is detail how they explain to the parents of those children that this is not a "willy nilly" strategy.
Jewish Publisher Calls for Israel to Kill Obama
An Atlanta based Jewish Times owner and publisher named Andrew Adler wrote an opinion editorial piece advising Israel to "give the go ahead for US based Mossad agents to take out a president deemed unfriendly to Israel in order for the current vice president to take his place and forcefully dictate that the United States' policy includes its helping the Jewish state obliterate its enemies." Adler named this as one of his strategies geared to protect Israel from its enemy The Islamic Republic of Iran. Mr. Adler has since apologized and resigned. However, the amazing part of this story is that this statement was actually printed thus further polarizing a nation that has not fully acknowledged and confronted its roots in racism.
Though calling for the assassination of any person is bad enough, yet alone a sitting president. This clarion call for an Obama assassination in a time where as president elect he received an alarmingly high rate of threats seeks to justify and empower the act in the minds of those who resent the fact that an African American has become the US president. Mr. Adler knew this and still decided to publish this statement. For this reason, his apology can not be deemed sufficient. At minimum he must acknowledge the support his op-ed gave to those who hate President Obama and all people of color solely for their race. He should admit the times where he and others have played on these feelings of racial resentment to enrich themselves and denounce those occasions also. He should then invest the riches earned from this hatred into endeavors designed to confront, and combat institutionalized white supremacy. An apology and resignation alone is not nearly enough when he knew the far reaching impact of his actions.
Legal Rights Denied When Govt Clears Its Citizens for Assassination
When an American citizen is declared a terrorist, the government can choose to assassinate them without disclosing any of the proof it says it posesses justifying the criminal accusations. The Obama and Bush administrations have chosen to proceed in this manner. Attorney General Eric Holder is expected to make a major speech in the coming weeks to defend this practice. What is alarming here is not who is being marked for death, but rather the psychological conditioning of the American people to allow it. Should this conditioning effort continue to prove victorious, then the path of targeting any American citizen for death purely for political reasons would be opened as well.
Catholics Demand GOP Candidates Stop Spewing Racism
More than 40 Catholic Leaders have penned a strong letter denouncing the racist language adopted by GOP presidential candidates Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum. The letter states "inflaming other racist caricatures is irresponsible, immoral and unworthy of political leaders."
2012 Presidential Campaign Evaluation
Candidates - The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Ron Paul (1/4/12)
The Good - Opposes the National Defense Act which authorizes the unlimited detention of any American citizen, called it an example of tyranny and voted against it. Introduced a bill allowing a $5,000 tax credit for homeschooling organizations that qualify for non profit status. Introduced a bill designed to stop the IRS from collecting income tax from US citizens. Remained level headed against those who hate Al Islam during the construction of the Islamic center near ground zero NY by writing, "There is no doubt that a small portion of radical, angry Islamists do want to kill us but the question remains, what exactly motivates this hatred? If Islam is further discredited by making the building of the mosque the issue, then the false justification for our wars in the Middle East will continue to be acceptable."
The Bad - He would oppose the 1964 Civil Rights Act which helped to end legalized racial discrimination. Even though he says he would not vote against abolishing Jim Crow laws, Ron Paul calls the legislation "a violation of the rights of private property and contract."
The Ugly - Mr. Paul accepts money from white supremacist organizations. He disseminated a news letter called the Ron Paul Investment Letter which stated about the LA uprisings of 1992, "Order was only restored in L.A when it came time for the blacks to pick up their welfare checks three days after rioting began. . . no doubt the blacks would have fully privatized the welfare state through continued looting." In the July 1992 issue, "Jury verdicts, basketball games, and even music are enough to set off black rage." In 1990 the newsletter stated that Martin Luther King Jr. had "replaced the evil of forced segregation with the evil of forced integration." A 1989 newsletter stated that "39 white women have been stuck with used hypodermic needles perhaps infected with AIDS by gangs of black girls between the ages of 12 and 14."
Mr. Paul has since disavowed, denied writing these newsletters and stated he became aware of them 10 years after they were written. His campaign manager has stated the newsletters were ghostwritten and that Mr. Paul has apologized for his mismanagement of the newsletter content.
But a larger unasked question is how much income did Mr. Paul earn in advertising revenue and circulation from the same newsletters he now disavows? UWM finds it very difficult to believe Mr. Paul had no knowledge of this material over the 10 plus years it was being printed and managed.
Mitt Romney (3/1/12)
President Barack Obama (3/15/12)
Laws & Their Impacts
Two bills introduced in Congress seek to strip nationalized Americans of their citizenship bear attention one is H.R. 3166 introduced in the House of Representatives and the other is S.1698 introduced in the Senate. Both call for nationals who have been found "engaging in or supporting hostilities against the United States" to be deemed worthy of citizenship removal. What is noteworthy is that these bills stress only nationalized citizens . . . for now. Historically when a nation begins to enact this process they typically start with the population that is easiest to denigrate. The way this bill will be marketed for support is to showcase the immigrants of color (Mexicans, Africans, Muslims from different areas) who have committed criminal acts while on American soil to imply to the people that this group would be the only impacted group. What is not being publicized is that should this become law, this would establish precedent for striping away naturalized citizenship from those born in America, should they do anything regarded as hostile. What is not being publicized is who determines the meaning hostile. How is this determination made? Will this determination be made public or remain a government secret under the classification of national security? Will political enemies be declared hostile?
Former Inmates are Placed in a Permanent Underclass even if they pay their debt to society and become exemplary citizens. Albert Dunn of Reading, PA was forced to sue in order to challenge this unspeakable yet all to oft occurring act of discrimination which has become all to normal thanks largely to a "tuff on crime" political order the United States culture has adopted since the 1960's.
Somali Americans Won't be Able to Send Money Home to Help Family. Minnesota Somali Americans regularly send money back to their relatives in the Horn of Africa. In these times of famine, tribal warfare and the lack of a centralized government, all assistance is needed. However some American banks are refusing to transfer these international funds for fear of forced government accountability.
President Obama explains why he signed the Defense Bill Allowing for the Indefinite Detention of any American citizen. This seems to be the latest attack on the individual rights of freedom that every American was supposed to have guaranteed by the Constitution. President Obama said his "administration will not authorize the indefinite military detention without trial of American citizens. Indeed, I believe that doing so would break with our most important traditions and values as a nation." UWM asks simply, if Obama keeps his word will the next president? What guarantees do the American people have that any president with this power will not use this authority to make war on any citizen he chooses?
